Calling All Children & Youth: We Need to Hear Your Voices!!!

Dear Parents / Guardians, Children & Youth…

We need your help!

Last year the Federal Government launched the “Smart Cities Challenge”, a national competition that encourages communities to come up with innovative technology solutions to their most pressing challenge. The top prize is $50 million!!!

Waterloo Region entered the contest with a focus on healthy children and youth. We want to make our community THE BEST in Canada for kids.

And we were chosen one of just five Canadian communities to compete for the award!

To help us win the $50 million, we are asking you (should you choose to participate) to assist your child(ren) in signing a special petition urging the competition judges to recognize the participation and support we have from local young people to win the smart cities challenge.

The petition is open to ALL children and youth up to age 18 and is available for your child(ren) to sign at: https://bit.ly/2Hnd0yD

Let’s hear all those #WCDSBAwesome Waterloo Catholic District School Board voices!!!

For more information, please visit www.smartwr.ca

You can follow along @SmartWatRegion on Instagram and Twitter. Use #SmartWR #SmartCitiesCanada and #bestcommunityforkids when chatting on social media.

Gator Gab – Week #20 – Jan. 28 – Feb. 1, 2019

Gator Gab – Week at a Glance for Week #20 – Jan. 28th-Feb. 1st, 2019

Below is a peak at our week ahead followed by some important information items – have a wonderful week Gators!

Freestyle Soccer – Positive Messages for our Gators about Building COMMUNITY

Our Gator’s learned some new freestyle soccer skills as well as meeting some very cool Freestyle Soccer Pros. Magnet and Eli Freeze told their stories of resilience, bullying and how to continue to make OLOG a great place for ALL! Empathy, Inclusion, celebrating our Differences, being a Leader and looking out for each other, were just some of the messages that were shared along with super amazing soccer skills. On behalf of our Gators, Thanks Eli and Magnet for stopping by the SWAMP!

Student Safety and Parking at OLOG

Student Safety is our paramount concern and a reminder about parking and drop off will assist us with this goal…

  1. ALL students who live a far distance from the school qualify for busing and are picked up and dropped off each day safely.
  2. All other students live within walking distance to our school.
  3. For this reason, additional cars dropping off and/or picking up should seldom if ever be needed.
  4. But if this is needed, please remember NOT to stop and park at any point in front of the school.
  5. Cars must not stop at any point past the bend on either side in front of the School on Gracefield Crescent. Our buses can not turn the corner, if there are cars parked at any point on the bend on either end in front of the school. Students line up in this area and await our buses for loading, as well, walking student’s parents meet them in front of the school. Parking Officers have been out several times to ensure safety. Please park a safe distance from the school and walk up if you feel is needed at all.
  6. Thanks for your understanding and support!

Gator Gab – Week #18 – Jan. 14-18, 2019

Gator Gab – Week at a Glance for Week #18 – Jan. 14th-18th, 2019

Below is a peak at our week ahead followed by some important information items – have a wonderful week Gators!

Social Media Safety Tips – Privacy Settings are Key as are remembering your “Personal Digital Footprint” Online – Thanks Constable Molnar!

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Constable Molnar for sharing her wisdom to keep our Gr. 5-8 students safe on the internet and when using social media! She challenged the students to:

  • check their privacy settings to make sure they are as restricted as can be as you never know who you are interacting with on the internet
  • Never give out personal information on the internet (details about who you are and/or photos)
  • Do you actually know all of your followers? Reduce the numbers of followers you have to only those very close friends and family you know
  • T.H.I.N.K. before you text as this represents your “Personal Digital Footprint” Online and or your character Online and can positively or negatively impact others… so always T.H.I.N.K. before you text … is it T: is it True; H; is it Helpful; I: is it in Inspirational; N: is it Necessary; and K: is it Kind? Great advice for our Gators!

Gator Gab – Week at a Glance for Week #17 – Jan. 7th-11th, 2019

Below is a peak at our week ahead followed by some important information items – have a wonderful week Gators!

Thanks ALL for making the MAGIC of CHRISTMAS come alive during our last week before the Christmas Break and we wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We cant say thank you enough to all of our Gator students, staff and parents who made this last week of Christmas at OLOG so very special! Our Christmas Theme week (i.e. Christmas head gear day), special activities in the classroom that serve to celebrate our Nativity Story, our Journey to Bethlehem and OLOG Census Book (who will Mary and Joseph visit next?), the Primary Christmas Craft Afternoon, the Gator Christmas Concert Celebration, and our final Christmas Movie/Pajama/Gum Day …  ALL so much fun and so very special! Celebrating Advent and the significance of the birth of Jesus leads us into a new Calendar year and we wish all of our families continued blessings in 2019!

GATOR SPIRIT WEAR DELIVERY UPDATE

Our vendor worked hard to get as much of orders out to families ahead of Christmas. The vast majority of GILDEN Cotton T-shirt orders were filled with only a small number on back order. We expect to get more Spirit Wear deliveries out this over the next 2 weeks (i.e. Under Armour Items, etc.). We will send out an updated Newswire with more information once the remaining orders delivered is communicated – thanks for your support and patience!
