Christmas Concert — Friday, December 13, 2019

OLOG Christmas Concert – Friday, December 13, 2019

Once again it is soon time for the Our Lady of Grace Christmas Concert! All of our classes have been working diligently to prepare a fun-filled holiday performance to kick off the Christmas season and fill our community with Christmas spirit. The concert will be held on Friday, December 13th. There will be a morning performance at 9:25 a.m. and an afternoon performance at 1:10 p.m.  Each show is a little over one hour.

To help us prepare, please indicate your choice of AM or PM show via the form sent out on School Cash Online (https://wcdsb.schoolcashonline.com/).  We would ask that you please only complete one form per family (oldest/only) by Sunday, December 1st. (Remember that, even though there is no cost attached, once you choose your option, you need to “Add to Cart” and “Continue” to the checkout process – only completed once “Complete Your Order” tab is pressed)

If you are able to attend we would love it if you could stay for all performances, as classes who are performing near the end of the concert have worked equally as hard as classes performing earlier, and equally deserve an audience to perform for.

We look forward to seeing you on December 13th and hope you enjoy our show!

Below is a peak at some events and important information items followed by our Week ahead …

WCDSB “Belonging Week” (Nov. 18-22nd), formerly “Anti-Bullying Week”

Tomorrow is WEAR PINK Day at OLOG to Kick-off this Important Week! Pink Shirt Day Nov. 18th

November 18th to 22nd is BELONGING WEEK at OLOG. This is our Board’s new name for the Ministry’s Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. Bullying is defined by the Ministry of Education as: “typically a form of repeated, persistent, and aggressive behaviour directed at an individual or individuals that is intended to cause (or should be known to cause) fear and distress and/or harm to another person’s body, feelings, self-esteem, or reputation. Bullying occurs in a context where there is a real or perceived power imbalance.” Stated more simply, “Bullying” can be identified by the 3 P’s: Pattern, Power Imbalance, and Persistent (or Purposeful)

In a school community where all students believe they belong, we can reduce bullying behaviours. Our school staff work with students daily to help them build their social skills, empathy and capacity to problem solve and resolve conflicts. We utilize Kelso’s Choices or the 9 Strategies to solve small or medium conflicts that can occur in all human interaction. And student’s are always reminded that if it feels like a BIG Problem, to tell an adult (Parent and/or Staff Member). When conflict occurs, as it does in all relationships, the goal is to listen to each other, have all participants accept responsibility for their role in the conflict, and commit to doing their part to repair any harm that was done. Children learn more from this supportive teaching approach rather than from harsh, punitive measures alone. All children deserve a chance to learn from their mistakes.

There is a theme for each day of our Belonging Week:

Monday – A Peaceful Community

Tuesday – An Inclusive Community

Wednesday – A Respectful Community

Thursday – A Community of Kindness

Friday – A Community that Builds Relationships

There will be daily prayers and classroom activities that reflect each day’s theme. On Wednesday, November 20th, our St. Luke Spirit Squad is inviting all students and staff to wear pink to show that we are committed to always being kind and respectful to each other.

Please take a moment to enjoy this short video in which Jean Vanier speaks about appreciating one another as human beings and encouraging children to create a classroom and a world where we can discover that we belong to each other: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjsbDAEJiqI.

Together, let us pray the prayer of St. Francis and ask for help to bring peace to our communities:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,

grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Remembrance Day Liturgy – Nov. 11th – Lest we Forget

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God!”  – (Matthew 5.9)

 Loving God, teach us to be people of peace.

Teach us to love one another that

there may be peace in our families.

Teach us to strengthen one another,

that there may be peace in our school.

Teach us to live and work justly, that there may be peace in our city.

Teach us to give equal respect and opportunity, that there may be peace in our nation.

Teach us to be peacemakers in all that we do.  Amen.

The month of November marks a special occasion for us all to take time from our busy schedules to remember the men and women who have given so much of themselves to ensure our safety and freedom. As we remember the many sacrifices made for our freedom this month, please continue to pray for peace in our world.

The Our Lady of Grace CES community will be observing Remembrance Day tomorrow (Nov. 11th) with a School Remembrance Day Liturgy at 10:45 AM. Please join us if you can for this very important observation. Lest We Forget!
