Council thanks our Gator families for all the prize donations for the dance-a-thon. Our students had a lot of fun. Also, thank you to those who volunteered for the pancake breakfast; we are hoping to do it again next year. We hope everyone has a wonderful March Break. Council’s next meeting is on Wednesday, March 7, and, as always, everyone is welcome to attend.
The Library Corner
Our Lady of Grace’s Second Fiction Festival is coming soon!
To celebrate and promote the love of literacy, our school is holding our second Fiction Festival!
The festival will take place on Friday, March 23, 2018. Students will take part in various activities to engage them in the joy of reading. We have two authors who are coming to present to our students in the morning and a variety of community leaders (Chief of Police Bryan Larkin, DJs from 91.5 The BEAT and the CTV news crew just to name a few) who will be reading stories to our classes in the afternoon. All students and staff members are invited to arrive on the day of the festival dressed as their favourite story/book character. The excitement does not end at the final bell! Chapters will be sponsoring our school that evening between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. Twenty percent of the proceeds from books purchased by Gators and friends during this time will be donated back to the school to purchase new books for our Library Learning Commons! Throughout the evening, there will be draws for Chapters gift cards for Gators in attendance! Please come to the Chapters location on King and Weber in Waterloo on March 23rd to support our school and the love of reading.
Every year, the WE Team selects one local and one global fundraising initiative. This year’s local focus is a men’s shelter, the House of Friendship. Due to the extreme cold weather this season, the shelter has run out of a number of items and has requested our help. The WE team has just started collecting items and will continue to do so until March 8.
Some of the items requested are:
NEW: underwear (size M and L), socks, toothbrushes, razors, shaving cream and deodorant
GENTLY USED: backpacks, shoelaces, belts, gloves/mittens, winter coats, warm sweaters/sweatshirts and boots/footwear.
The WE Team would like to thank you in advance for your continued support!
Congratulations to Our Lady of Grace Boys’ Basketball team. The boys tied for first at the one-day tournament held at St. Mary’s on Friday, February 23, 2018. The boys played hard, exhibiting great play making and strong defence. They supported and encouraged each other throughout the four games they played and were outstanding ambassadors for Our Lady of Grace. Way to go, boys!
Knights of Columbus Basketball Free Throw Challenge

The girls competed against other girls who had qualified from Windsor all the way to Toronto. Way to go, girls! Our Lady of Grace is very proud of you!!
The Intermediate Girls’ Volleyball team were ambassadors of Grace at the tournament on February 26th, 2018. Through their hard work and determination, they demonstrated that winners are not people who never fail but people who never quit. Way to go, girls!
Eco Team News
Did you know two thirds of natural wetlands have disappeared since 1900 or that 1.9 billion people live in areas where water is already scarce? Water is a precious resource that we often take for granted. In recognition of World Water Day on March 22nd, our Eco Club will be focused on learning more about water conservation and where our water comes from here in Waterloo region. We will be running a campaign at school to raise awareness of how we can improve our water conservation on a daily basis. Here some tips for conserving water at home:
- Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth
- Cut showers short
- Don’t run the dishwasher or washing machine until it is full
- Install a rain barrel
- Water outdoor plants early in the day (outside of peak hours)
